Bedtime at my house? It’s a battlefield. The night starts peacefully enough—teeth brushed, bedtime stories read, cuddles given—but it’s that last challenge, the one that stands between me and sweet, sweet silence: pajamas. My toddler treats this nightly ritual like a personal attack on her freedom.

Tonight, the war began as soon as I mentioned pajamas. With the intensity of an Oscar-winning performance, she ran down the hall shrieking, “No jammies! No jammies EVER!” It was as if I had suggested she sleep on a bed of hot coals. I calmly tried reasoning with her, explaining how we’ve been doing this routine for months without issue. That didn’t work. Then, I tried bribery—surely she’d cooperate for the right incentive, right? But no, my sweet talks and treats were met with a shake of the head.

I pulled out her favorite unicorn pajamas, the ones she had begged me to buy just last week. “Look! Your unicorn jammies!” I said, waving them in front of her. “No, they feel weird!” she declared, even though she had worn them just fine only two nights ago.

I tried again. “What about these awesome dinosaur pajamas?” I offered. A resounding “No!” followed. “Okay, how about these adorable starry night ones?” Another firm shake of the head. “How about a plain T-shirt, just for tonight?” I gasped, expecting her to gasp in return. How dare I suggest such an outrageous thing?

At this point, she stood before me, arms crossed, wearing a tutu, a superhero cape, and—just to top it off—one lone sock. “This is what I sleep in now,” she announced. I was too exhausted to continue. “Fine,” I sighed, throwing my hands up in defeat. “Go to bed.”

She climbed into bed, a victorious smirk plastered on her face, while I trudged off to my own bed, questioning every parenting decision I’d ever made.

If you’re tired of bedtime battles, consider switching to one-piece zip-up pajamas. Trust me, toddlers are far less likely to resist when there’s only one step involved.
